Youth programs of the Lane Workforce Partnership are overseen by a Youth Council. Mandated by the Workforce Investment Act, the Youth Council is comprised of educators, representatives from business, Job Corps, parents and youth.

The program targets youth who are at risk of dropping out of school. The goal is to help youth earn a high school diploma or GED while obtaining and mastering their employment skills so that they can become productive citizens. Contractors work in partnership with schools, social service organizations, local businesses and parents to provide a comprehensive program of services that addresses the needs of youth. Playing a major role in the process, parents are kept well informed of their son/daugher's progress and areas of improvement.

Services to youth ages 14-21 are offered on a year-round basis. Services include:

  • Tutoring

  • Study skills training and instruction leading to secondary school completion

  • Alternative secondary school offerings

  • Occupational skill training

  • Leadership development opportunities

  • Supportive services

  • Adult mentor for at least 12 months

  • Followup services for a least a year

  • Comprehensive guidance and counseling

In addition, youth participate in a work experience component that provides them with the opportunity to explore careers, learn basic job skills and learn responsibilities of maintaining a job. They are kept aware of their progress and areas of improvement.

Strong partnerships with businesses and other employers make the program a success. If you are a business interested in participating or if you want more information about our youth program, call Paula at (541) 682-7225 or e-mail info@laneworkforce.org.
