Total nonfarm employment dropped by 3,000 jobs in January due to seasonal losses. Most major industry sectors saw losses. The largest were in state government education due to winter break (-800), retail trade (-700), leisure and hospitality (-300), professional and business services (-300), local education, and construction (-200)

Lane County’s seasonally adjusted employment rate dropped from 6.7 percent in December 2014 to 6.5 percent in January 2015. This is the lowest rate since July 2008 and continues a downward trend begun when the rate peaked at 12.8 percent in May 2009. Oregon’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 6.3 percent and the national rate was 5.7 percent in January.
