Structure of modules (each three-hour module is formatted to include):

  • Assessment of the participant's current point of view
  • A case study showing real world examples
  • New Information
  • Tools and techniques to take away
  • A chance to apply the new information and practice using the tools
  • The opportunity to provide feedback

Description of modules

Effective Communication
Looks at why communication is so important in the workplace. Includes a self-assessment of communication characteristics and identifies barriers to good communication through participant experience. Techniques, such as active listening and paraphrasing, are identified and practiced

Customer Service
Probes the nature of good customer service, sharpens participant's human relations skills and looks at some actual work site situations. Tools include active listening, paraphrasing, and how to diffuse an angry customer

Adapting to Change
Examines the nature of job change, the differences between change and transition and the elements of resistance to change. Tools include ideas to help people prosper through workplace changes.

Managing Stress
Defines stress, identifies what stress symptoms look like, examines the impact of stress in the workplace and provides tips for reducing stress.

Workplace Culture
Introduces the concept of workplace culture and provides methods for determining whether your own values an work expectations are a good match, looks at the dynamics of motivation and examines different structures of systems and how they work.

Workplace Ethics
Examines the role of ethics in the modern workplace. Clarifies values, discusses ethical dilemmas. Guidelines for making good decisions are provided and common work-related situations are explored.

Teamwork
Team characteristics and team roles are examined. Participants have the opportunity to engage in problem solving exercises and case studies are utilized to develop good teamwork principles. Ways to build team skills at work and outside of work are investigated.

Problem Solving and Creative Thinking
Addresses beliefs about problem solving an analyzes several work related problem situations. A basic problem solving strategy is detailed. Brainstorming an creative thinking are examined as tools for better problem solving.
