What is the purpose of these funds?
Governor Ted Kulongoski established these funds using federal Workforce Investment Act dollars in order to support the retention and growth of quality jobs, a skilled workforce and competitive businesses in Oregon. The emphasis of the funds is to upgrade skills of the private sector workforce in order to increase productivity, keep Oregon businesses viable and competitive, and to offer new skills and opportunities to Oregon's workers.

Who is eligible for funding?
Existing businesses, business consortia, associations or private non-profits operating in Lane County from the targeted industries listed. No government organizations will be awarded funds. Applicants must be from the traded sector (a company or a group of companies that provide goods and/or services to customers outside of the state) or the health care industry.

Targeted industries include: health care, wood products, transportation (RV manufacturing and related industries), computer and electronics, and software publishing and distribution.

Funds are awarded by the Lane Workforce Partnership's Employer Workforce Committee.

How much money has been disbursed?
Since April 2004 the Lane Workforce Partnership has awarded $1,272,694 to Lane County businesses in a competitive proposal process.

Over 2,500 Lane County employees have or are receiving training in areas from high performance manufacturing, nursing, industry-specific computer software, wood products machinery and employee development projects.
